The Florida Center Hires Its First Director
Meet Tom Verbos
Director of the FLCEO
As Director of FLCEO, Tom is responsible for leading FLCEO’s networking, fundraising, and programming initiatives designed to educate business owners, their employees and financial advisors, and elected officials across Florida on the prospect and long-term benefits of employee ownership.
Tom’s past career experience consists of executive management roles, including Vice President, President, and CEO, with the majority of that time being spent with Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) companies. His passion for employee ownership comes directly from his own experience of the benefits it offers. He has the unique perspective of engagement with private equity and publicly owned companies, as well as family-owned businesses, and has seen the long-lasting impact business owners can create with their choice to move their organization to an employee-owned structure. The legacy it creates reaches employees, their families and the communities in which these businesses operate.
Tom was educated at Concordia University Wisconsin and holds an MBA with a finance focus and a double major Bachelor of Arts degree, including a liberal arts major focused on art, history and culture, and a business management major with emphasis on communications.
Tom’s community involvement has included board membership with the Hartford Area Development Corporation (Hartford, WI), active participation and support of the United Way and GPS Education Partners. During his time as President of SteelCraft Corporation, Tom established an on-site education center for GPS Ed, focused on helping at-risk teens, offering them the opportunity to obtain their high school diploma through a special work-based learning program that actively engages parents, GPS dedicated educators and local community and business leaders.
He and his wife spend their leisure time hiking, boating and fishing, attending theater and musical events, local fairs and festivals, and family gatherings that include their daughters and grandchildren.
