LISA M. GOMEZ
PRESIDENT, LMG COLLABORATIVE CONSULTING SOLUTIONS
FORMER ASSISTANT SECRETARY OF LABOR FOR EMPLOYEE BENEFITS SECURITY, U.S. DEPARTMENT OF LABOR
Lisa M. Gomez is a nationally recognized thought leader in employee benefits, with over 25 years of experience working with job-based retirement, health, and other benefit plans. She served as the Assistant Secretary for Employee Benefits Security at the U.S. Department of Labor from October 2022 to January 2025, where she led the Employee Benefits Security Administration (EBSA) -- the federal agency charged with protecting workplace retirement, health, and welfare benefits for more than 150 million workers.
During her time at EBSA, she led the Department of Labor’s Employee Ownership Initiative and the creation of its first-ever Division of Employee Ownership, dedicated to the promotion of employee ownership in all forms. She issued the Department’s 2025 proposed regulation on valuation of employer stock in ESOPs in an effort to initiate progress towards the development of an adequate consideration rule. Lisa was committed to bridging the gap between the employee ownership community and EBSA, and made a point of not only speaking directly with ESOP and worker cooperative members at conferences, but also meeting with them personally, visiting their locations, and listening to them directly about how the Department and EBSA could best serve the employee ownership community.
Prior to her government service, Gomez was a partner and management committee chair at the law firm Cohen, Weiss and Simon LLP, where she spent nearly three decades representing collectively bargained multiemployer and single employer plans, and other benefit arrangements across diverse industries throughout the country. She has held leadership roles in the American Bar Association’s Section of Labor and Employment Law and was inducted as a Fellow of the American College of Employee Benefits Counsel in recognition of her decades of contributions to the employee benefits field.
She now leads LMG Collaborative Consulting Solutions LLC, a boutique consulting firm offering strategic, technical, and policy-oriented advisory services in the employee benefits, organized labor, fiduciary liability, and mental health space. She is frequently sought out by national media outlets for her insight and common sense, genuine approach to employee benefits issues.
“I’m honored to join the board of EOX and contribute to its work expanding access to employee ownership - a proven model for building economic resilience. In my career working on retirement policy and workplace equity, I’ve seen how giving workers a real say and stake in their company’s success can be transformative. I’m excited to help more businesses and workers tap into this potential as another path for empowering workers and strengthening businesses.”
